A Medida

Miami · Jan 2020

A medida, made to measure. Commercial work that fit the brief exactly, then quietly went past it.

The product was a white tee with a green graphic on the front, and the brief was basically show the shirt. So I shoved Dre into a wall of tropical greenery, ferns and palm fronds and a chunk of limestone rock, and let the white pop against all that mess of leaves. Mirrored shades, soft cap, arms down, tattoos catching the dappled light coming through the canopy.

He gives you almost nothing on his face and somehow that is the whole sell. The shirt reads clean, the graphic reads sharp, and he just stands there steady while the jungle does the framing. Gentle on the surface, completely immovable underneath.

That is the trick with good commercial work. You hit every mark the client asked for, and then the picture quietly becomes a portrait when nobody was watching for it.
