Trust first
Most people freeze in front of a lens, me included. So the first job is never technical, it is getting someone to relax and trust you with their portrait.
Anchors & Anvils is the editorial, fashion & portrait practice of David Beltran, photographer and filmmaker based in Miami, shooting on location across Miami · Orlando · Las Vegas.
I follow the idea of ikigai, finding a sense of purpose. Mine turned out to be making people laugh and smile, and that is what led me to photography. I started with a Canon T1i and friends brave enough to stand in front of the lens while I figured out exposure, composition, and posing. More than a decade later I am still chasing the same thing.
These days I shoot editorial, fashion, and portraits on location, and most projects leave with both stills and a short film, so the story lives on the page and on screen. I love working with non-models and new faces. Most people shy away from a camera, me included, so half the work is convincing someone to finally trust you with their portrait.
Underneath all of it is Endlessly Gorgeous, an ongoing portrait series and the philosophy behind everything here: that you do not have to fit anyone's definition of beauty to deserve a portrait worth keeping. Read the philosophy →

Each project gets its own name, voice, and colour, built around the person before a frame is lit. Then the identity steps back and lets the photography lead.
Most projects leave with both, a gallery of stills and a short film. One body of work, two ways to feel it.
